中国加入WTO后，与世界各国联系更为密切，而英语越来越发挥着不可或缺的作用。但现在，过多的人员涉入英语这一行业，导致大批的英语毕业生难以就业。对英语专业学生的就业方向以及社会对英语专业学生需求进行了相应的调查，了解一些行情，有利于英语专业学生更好就业。
二、采访调查分析
在对省内某所著名高校的就业指导老师和相关就业负责人的采访中，获得一手就业资料。英语专业在此高校细分为英语语言文学、翻译、英德双语方向，以下是英语专业不同方向近几年就业率或工作签约率图表：

英语专业学生就业方向主要有国际贸易方向，旅游方向和师资方向。其中，国际贸易方向提供国际贸易业务人员、商务翻译、商务助理等方面的职业。旅游方向主要涉及英文导游及涉外宾馆的接待及管理人员、外企业高级文员、外向型企业等工作岗位。[1]对于师资，幼儿园、小学、中学、职业高中的教师都是可选的。具体分析问卷得出，的问卷参与者不清楚上述英语专业相关就业方向，对于各个就业方向具体细节了解的更是甚微。
关于英语专业的重要性问题，的人都觉得英语在社会上的地位不太重要，因为很多学而不精使英语成为一个弱势专业（只要会简单地说写），而的人认为英语专业很重要，放眼英语国际化高端职业，国际化的高端英语人才还是十分急缺的。大部分人认为现在人才市场上对英语需求的是听说读写综合能力，其中有23%的人认为翻译（口译和笔译）是很需要的。80%的学生认为较适合英语方向的是外贸行业，次之是酒店和旅游。
关于工作地和具体工作细节问题，近年来部分沿海城市和大城市日益趋于国际化，大型企业，外资企业，日益成为毕业生向往的就业目标，特别是北京上海等国际化大都市。企业在工作中会有大量的场合要接触到英文文件、材料、资料以及直接和外方进行业务上的接触。甚至有些公司会在公司的日常文档中要求直接使用英文，所以现在高水准的企业对英语实际应用水平的要求是相当高的。参与问卷设计的大三大四学生中，英语相关工作的实习地点和工作地点多数在沿海城市或者国际大城市，以期获得高档次、宽领域、多方位的工作培训和工作经验。[2]
关于薪资要求问题，的人对第一份工作的薪酬希望是2500元到3000元之间，其次期望3000元到4000元，10%期望4000元以上，几乎没人期望是2000元以下。个人能力、社会需求和大众趋势，都影响问卷参与者对薪酬的期望值。[3]
